I believe we may be related and I can offer you some information about the forebears of Ervin Hugh/Hough FULLER.

I was first introduced to my Fuller forebear (Hugh Scott E. Fuller) by my grandfather who was quite interested in his ancestry, and traced it back as far as he could. His grandmother was Mary Ann Fuller, daughter of Hugh and Nancy Gardner.

Nancy was a second wife, the first wife was Abigail Gardner who died 2 August 1822 in Goshen, Ohio. Hugh and Abigail had two children, Ervin H. and Abigail. My grandfather has Ervin marrying a Nancy in his notes, and Abigail marrying an Abel Smith, son of Wilmarth.

Hugh then returned to Pembroke, NY and married one of Abigail’s cousins, Nancy Gardner, on 2 May 1826. They then moved to Elba, Genesee county, NY where they had three children, James, David, and Mary Ann. Hugh eventually went to Hamburg, Erie county, NY where he died in 1830.

My grandfather used the book by A.M. Shotwell “Our Family Annals” (1895-7). The first mention of Hugh Fuller is about “Abigail, [ninth child of John Gardner and Bathsheba Watson] removed with her husband to Ohio as early as 1816, settling in Goshen, and becoming a member of Salem (Ohio) M.M. by certificate from Farmington M.M. dated 25 of 5 mo. 1820; m. (as 1st wife) Scott (or Hugh Scott E.) Fuller and had (1.) Ervin, dw. Rolla, Phelps Co., Mo., m. Nancy_____ (2.) Abigail, d. Walworth, N.Y., m. Abel Smith, son of Wilmarth.”

Later in the book, Hugh is again mentioned, “Nancy, [fifth child of Abiel Gardner and Polly Jewell] b. 8 March 1804, dw. N. Pembroke, N.Y., d. ____; m. (1), 2 May, 1826, (as 2nd wife) Scott E. Fuller, who d. ____; m. (2), 12 Oct., 1833, John Gustavus Vader, of Elba (now Oakfield), N.Y., who d. in Sherwood, Mich, ____, son of Peter & Catherine (Howard) Vader, natives of N.Y. state, the former of Dutch, and the latter of Hessian ancestry.”

The Genesee County surrogate court’s records of Hugh S.E. Fuller states he was deceased in 1830, and dealt with the widow and the three infant children, James, David and Mary Ann. Within the official file, is a single hand-written page, undated, which gives the name of Hugh S.E. Fuller’s children, James, David and Mary Ann, wife of Hiram Robinson, and gives the only statement of other offspring “two children by 1st wife – one is dead & left one child, & other don’t know when it is – don’t know names –“

In the files of Genesee county, there is a record of a transfer of land from Ervin H. Fuller to John G. Vader in the early 1850′s. Also, in the records of the Holland Land Company, Hugh S. Fuller purchased land around 1815, along with a number of Gardners.

We have a lot of information on the Gardners, but have been totally unable to track down Hugh’s parentage. From what I see of your Fuller line, it seems more than likely that your Ervin Hugh/Hough is the half-brother of my Mary Ann, and we always enjoy meeting new family.
